BY THE NUMBERS

WILL is largely comprised of experienced professionals, with the average tenure of the group being 13.77 years in the industry, and 22% of our respondents, almost a quarter of our group, have 20+ years of industry experience. We also have about 15% of our members who have been in the industry for 5 years or less. We hope that this will allow for natural mentor/mentee relationships to form as the group members get to know each other in the years to come.
As we set out to form a new ALFN group focused on women leaders in the industry, we thought it was important to first understand the composition of our group and its collective interests. Our survey focused on both the professional and personal attributes of our members, and the results show that we are all commonly interested in building a community of professional women who can learn from each other in a supportive environment that fosters camaraderie and relationship building within our industry.

When answering the question “What would you like to get out of the group?” most survey respondents cited the desire to network, support, and encourage one another to meet the goals of professional success and work-life balance.

The group is equally split between legal and business when it comes to the role our members play at their firms and/or companies. Approximately half are attorneys and compliance professionals, while the other half is comprised of operations, sales, vendor, and asset management professionals. We are employed at law firms, trustees, servicers, banks, and legal support service companies.

The responses also showed that many of those members with children are the primary caregivers, share parenting duties, or have already raised families. Although the minority, over a quarter of the membership are not married and do not have children, and there are also others in transitional phases in their lives--several members expecting children soon, and several others who are engaged to be married.

The one theme that emerged from the survey is that regardless of title, tenure in the industry, marital status, or family obligations, the group was overwhelmingly in support of WILL’s endeavor to create a space in this industry where members can network with like-minded women for the betterment of the individuals in the group, and the industry as a whole.
